It's summer, summer, summer time! Time to sit back and unwind!
While I am totally pumped for the beginning of vacation, I would be completely lying if I didn't say the end of the year didn't bring anxiety and sadness too. Anxiety about the mountain of paperwork, cleaning and packing that has to be done before checking out. It is so hard to resist the urge to just pop a movie in so that I can get all of my work done but my students deserve better than that. They come to school for experiences and learning and that's what I'm always determined to give them. We count down the days until summer with our annual ABC countdown to summer.
Earlier I mentioned the end of the year bringing sadness. We love our students like our own kids. Think about it, we spend more time with these little people than we do our family members in some cases. We spend a year teaching them, getting to know them, and above all loving them and then it's time to turn them over to someone else. I know I personally struggle with this. I become so attached to my kids. I wonder will their next teacher get to know them like I did, will she love them the way I did, will they continue to love school as much as they did this year. Although I am usually a blubbering mess when I do this, I find comfort in putting together end of the year gifts and creating a video of our year together.
The contents of each child's gift bag included bubbles, a s'more kit, a poem, a picture of the child during the year, and a summer reading bucket list. (The tags and the bucket list are free in my TpT Store.)
The countdown to summer isn't all sad, it also brings the excitement of free time, going to the bathroom when I want, not having to inhale my lunch, and more importantly NO PAPERWORK! Despite my sadness as the busses pull away for the final time I am so excited to unwind and have plenty of adventures.
